The Kiev 88 was a medium format single-lens reflex camera produced by the Arsenal factory in Ukraine from 1957 to 1980. Based heavily on the Hasselblad design, this 6x6cm camera featured interchangeable lenses, viewfinders, and film backs, making it a versatile system camera for professional and serious amateur photographers. The Kiev 88 utilized a focal plane shutter with speeds from 1 second to 1/1000 second, and came standard with excellent Soviet-made lenses including the renowned Volna 80mm f/2.8. Despite some build quality inconsistencies typical of Soviet cameras, the Kiev 88 offered an affordable alternative to Western medium format systems and gained popularity among photographers seeking professional capabilities at a fraction of the cost.
