Rollei Rolleiflex TLR

✎ Edit this page

The Rolleiflex TLR is an iconic twin-lens reflex camera system that defined medium format photography from 1929 onwards, producing 6x6cm square images on 120 roll film. This camera features two matched lenses - a taking lens below and a viewing lens above - with the top lens projecting the image onto a ground glass screen for composition and focusing. The Rolleiflex series incorporated superb Carl Zeiss or Schneider optics, precision leaf shutters, and exceptionally robust mechanical construction. Its waist-level viewfinder and quiet operation made it ideal for portraiture, street photography, and professional work. The Rolleiflex became synonymous with quality medium format photography, used by legendary photographers like Richard Avedon and Diane Arbus, and remains highly regarded for its sharp lenses, reliable mechanics, and distinctive square format aesthetic that influenced generations of photographers.
